The Nigeria Legion, Nsit Ubium branch, has been given an 18-seater bus to assist them in their activities. The ex-soldier obtained the bus under the constituency transport scheme (CTS) of the member representing Nsit Ubium in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke. The bus which was given to the legion on Wednesday, January 15 2014 was part of activities to mark this year Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Nsit Ubium.
Presenting the bus to the legionnaires on behalf of Barr. Luke, the Chairman, Nsit Ubium State Local Government Area, Mr. Ekpedeme Akpan, implored them to “continue to keep the peace, show loyalty and cooperate with the administration of Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio as partners in the efforts to make the entire Akwa Ibom a destination of choice”.
He thanked the lawmaker for his selfless contributions to the growth and wellbeing of groups and institutions in Nsit Ubium, citing the donation of cars and monies to Nsit Ubium people under his Constituency Transport Scheme and seed fund for business start-up during his constituency briefing last month.
Also responding, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Nsit Ubium branch, Major Christopher Bassey Offoing, expressed gratitude to Barr. Luke for the bus saying it will do a lot to facilitate the activities of the legion. He noted that the legion deserved to also benefit from the empowerment schemes of the lawmaker given the sacrifice of the ex-soldier the country.
He called on other members of the society to “reciprocate (the ex-service men’s) supreme sacrifice by offering some measure of assistance, financially, morally and otherwise for the up keep of the families of the departed heroes and that of the surviving Heroes in our midst”.
